A paradise
The concept of paradise has been a crucial one throughout the ages. Its significance lies in its capacity to make human existence meaningful and livable regardless of the fact that it's always temporary. Paradise is a place of peace and abundance. It is a place that is not part of the normal era and therefore is not subject to disease, crime or death. It is also a place where there are always young and healthy people.
Paradise is described in many ways, from the biblical Garden of Eden to the lush Pacific Ocean island paradises of novels and Gauguin paintings. Even in the present the rise of communes, and the resurgence of interest in outdoor activities and gardening can be seen as a manifestation of paradise. The word utopia, actually, invokes images of a paradise. While not all utopias are based on religion however, they usually contain motifs of paradise and are designed to reflect certain aspects of paradise under real conditions.
The word"paradise" can have numerous meanings, but they all describe an environment or state of great beauty and pleasure. It can also be a place that is ideal for a particular sport or hobby. For example the golfer's paradise or an hummingbird’s paradise. In a religious context it can be a reference to heaven and the heaven where the righteous go after they die.
Different languages have used the word paradise, however it was originally derived from the ancient Iranian language of Avestan. The word is pairidaeza, or "walled enclosure," from the roots pairi, "around," and daeza, "wall." It became part of the Hebrew and other Aramaic scriptures as paradeisos and was later adapted into Greek, where it became paradise.
In the Bible, the Garden of Eden is paradise. It was a beautiful location where the first couple lived, unaffected of disease and death. When they rebelled against God, however, they lost their paradise. In later Bible prophecies paradise is a place where a happy human race will live for eternity. The term "paradise" could also refer to a state that is happiness, either psychological or spiritual, and joy.
